UNCLASSIFIED POSITION

PART-TIME 20 HOURS.

JOB CODE: 118100

JOB PURPOSE: The selected candidate will be responsible for special programs such as theater arts, fine arts, preschool or with the disabled or elderly at an assigned recreation center, theater/puppetry arts center, fine art studio or special events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, promotes and conducts recreational activities.
  • Teaches and/or oversees fine arts, special events and preschool or programs for the elderly or disabled.
  • Teaches classes in some of the following mediums: pottery, stained glass, glass fusion, drawing, painting, jewelry, photography, digital mixed media and sculpture.
  • Loads and unloads kilns, operates equipment and uses tools in pottery, jewelry making, stained glass, photography and digital printmaking.
  • Performs in a variety of theatrical programs.
  • Schedules center activities.
  • Counsels participants as necessary.
  • Constructs puppets, props, scenery, and costumes.
  • Manipulates puppets; participates in the planning and writing of scripts.
  • Conducts one-person activities such as puppet stories and creative dramatics.
  • Operates audiovisual equipment such as film/slide projectors and tape players.
  • Operates sound and light systems.
  • Operates power tools and equipment necessary to construction of puppets, scenery and stage properties.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts diverse programs of special recreation activities and events designed to meet the needs of preschool children or elderly or disabled citizens such as sports, music, arts and crafts, social recreation, dramatics, camping, dancing, and swimming.
  • Performs clerical work; prepares and submits reports; verifies purchase orders and requisitions.
  • Takes orders and purchases supplies for activities.
  • Writes receipts for supplies and equipment; maintains records, logs, lists, and forms.
  • Inspects recreational facilities and equipment to ensure safety.
  • Enforces proper safety practices and occupational safety rules and regulations;
  • Oversees operation of assigned area in absence of higher level workers.
  • Ensures security of building.
  • Directs visitors at center; answers phones and provides information concerning programs and use of center.
  • Performs related work as required.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of techniques, aids, and use and care of equipment applicable to a wide variety of recreation, theater/puppetry arts, fine arts, special events and special population activities.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR; emotional and physical problems of preschool children, the disabled or the elderly; basic records keeping.
  • Ability to coordinate and conduct recreational and group activities.
  • Ability to maintain records and compile reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups and the general public.
  • Ability to perform activities requiring light to moderate physical strength and endurance.
  • Ability to work with all age groups and disabilities.
  • Ability to operate a light motor vehicle if required.
  • Skill in administering first aid and CPR.
  • Skill in the care/maintenance of recreational equipment.
  • Skill in operating power tools and sound and light systems.

SUGGESTED MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited high school with six (6) months experience in specialized recreation programs, preferably in an instructional fine arts capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES: Possession of a Standard First Aid Certificate; CPR Certificate within six (6) months of appointment; a valid Florida driver's license.

EXAMINATION:

Evaluation of training and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
