GlutenFreeFind.com: Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to chat with you today Tess!
Tess Masters: You're welcome and thank you!

GFF:

? We love the fact that you have an "alter ego" - how did you become The Blender Girl?TM:? I use blending as a metaphor for how I live my life - the idea of ?taking what I like, and leaving the rest?. I like to combine different ideas and concepts; notes and flavours; and philosophies and cultures, in order to find a healthy balance to make me happy. That is my recipe for success. So ?"blend and live? was born and I started a vegetarian recipe blog.I thought The Blender Girl sounded young and fresh, ?high speed? with her ?finger on the pulse?, sassy, quirky, cheeky, and not too serious, on a day when I was feeling old! LOL! It also extended the metaphor for how I live my life - blending what I like from this and that. Probably a bit gimmicky and not very original - there are a lot of ?girls? out there! But I am stuck with her now! Besides, she brings out the silly side of me, and cooking should be fun.

GFF:? Why Blender Recipes?

TM:? As a passionate whole foods cook, obsessive recipe collector and excited eater, I had constant requests for easy healthy recipes that always come attached with an all-too-familiar disclaimer: ?I don?t have time to eat in a healthy way and I don?t know how to cook with those weird ingredients!? My friend Lyn always has a witty retort for people who say they can?t cook. ?Can you read? Well, cooking starts with reading.? This simple philosophy has always resonated with me, and I offer it up to you today as the only skill that is required in order to enjoy my gluten free vegetarian recipes.?

I then thought about how many easy recipes I had, that were made quickly in my blender. I thought, ?Anyone can throw some ingredients in a blender!?

I love my blender because it makes healthy eating so easy! There is a joke in my family that ?I could live without teeth?. A food processor would come in a close second; and my stand mixer takes the last spot on the podium in my race for culinary divinity. These high speed kitchen appliances are gifts from the Gods, designed to make our lives easier. So why not exploit them to their full potential?I have been passionate about whole foods and natural cooking for many years; and have been an avid recipe collector, serial cooking class participant, and recipe blog follower. However, as wonderful as so many of my favorite recipe sites are, I didn?t find any food blog that truly celebrated the versatility of these fabulous machines beyond smoothies, pancakes, dips, spreads and protein drinks. Or more importantly, were blending natural, allergy free, gluten free, vegan ingredients the way I liked. I decided it was time to pay homage to all things ?well blended?. I am now on a crusade to find the most phenomenal easy gluten free, vegetarian recipes that can be made with a blender! I think of this gluten free vegetarian recipe blog as a series of tasty love letters to the ?power? of live, naked whole foods, and my beloved blender. After all, she has helped me find my ?perfect blend? on more than one occasion.

GFF:? How do you find inspiration for your healthy recipes?

TM:? I choose to post recipes that intersect my life in various ways. Most often I will create my own gluten free vegetarian recipes that are inspired by seasonal produce, festive events, or my emotions!

Other times I modify recipes I have enjoyed throughout my life in order to make them allergy free recipes. I enjoy playing around with favorites I have received from family and friends, or yummy recipes I have made in the many whole foods cooking classes I have taken. Sometimes, I will share delicious easy gems I discover in cookbooks, magazines, shows, or from other food bloggers and recipe share sites. But my favorite way to create recipes is to hang out in the kitchen and have fun blending up different ingredients I have on hand and seeing where the mood takes me. It is always fabulous when there is an unexpected triumph that begs to be shared.

GFF:? What is your favorite blender recipe?

TM:? My quick, easy raw vegan key lime mousse is my most requested recipe, and the recipe I get the most emails about. It is a winner on every level. This gluten free vegan dessert can literally be made in under 5 minutes; chilled and devoured in under half an hour; and requires absolutely no skill whatsoever. Just blend and chow!

Best of all, there is nothing bad in it! WOO HOO! We love to hear that! If you are looking for delicious allergy free recipes this is a

winner! This easy healthy recipe is gluten free, dairy free, egg free, nut free, soy free, and refined sugar free. Just pure Yum Yum Yum!
I have not met anyone who doesn?t love this simple key lime mousse. Vegans, Omnivores, Toxic Treat Tamers, Cream Dreamers and Whole Foods Skeptics all agree ? this raw vegan mousse is scrumptious! I will say that some people are not quite as partial to the extreme tart flavor as I am. This can be easily tempered with a little more sweetener. I am a tart at heart. So the more bite the better! But if your taste is a little more conservative, just sweeten this key lime mousse in order to find your perfect blend. I am partial to the ?blend and taste? approach. Just keep blending and tasting until you get this raw vegan mousse ?juuuust right?.

I have made all kinds of variations of key lime mousse, and they have all been wonderful. I have made a raw vegan mousse with just lemon juice, just lime juice - I have left out the rind when I didn?t have the ?zest for zest?. I have to say that this recipe is fail-safe as long as you stick to the ratios of juice. You just can?t mess this one up!

I will say though, that the combination of lemon and lime juice with the rind lends a depth of flavor that is hard to match. Trust me, let the tart in you sing, and you won?t be sorry. I finally understand the true meaning of ?sublime?.

GFF:? What is your favorite part of your work?

TM:? The best thing about writing a food blog is being able to share my journey with food. I love getting email from readers about their experiences with my recipes, and learning from their personal stories as well. As an actor, I have a love of story, and healthy food is a wonderful way to connect with people and their stories. I LOVE hearing about how people have transformed their lives with the power of live whole foods.

I really enjoy meeting other people in the culinary and wellness community ? learning, growing, and sharing ideas. I also feel very privileged to have opportunities to be involved in recipe development for various companies, and getting to write articles for publications and websites all over the world.? Cooking and writing is fun!

GFF:? What are your culinary plans for the near future?

TM:? I will continue to share quick, easy, healthy gluten free vegetarian recipes; connect with people in the culinary world; and have fun with food!

In 2012, I will be filming a video series, teaching cooking classes in California, and continuing my recipe development commitments. I keep very busy with my acting and voice over career.? But if time permits, I will write a book, finish my app, and launch my spin off website!
