Vizio gets into the laptop, desktop biz

By Suzanne Choney

Vizio, makers of the inexpensive HDTVs that populate Costcos and Wal-Marts around the country, says it's coming out with its own line of laptops and all-in-one desktop PCs.

Pricing and availability are still not known, but the lineup includes a 27-inch and 24-inch all-in-one, as well as a 14- and 15-inch "Thin + Light" notebook and a 15.6-inch full-size laptop. The company is expected to unveil the lineup at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Vizio, which also has its own tablet, could be onto something by providing nearly a full set of tech gear centered around screens.

"If they're smart about how they bundle these products together, and make it clear your Vizio PC will talk to your Vizio TV and media tablet, it could be pretty interesting," Tom Mainelli, an IDC analyst told the Wall Street Journal. "Customers want to share content across these devices."

The company teases its all-in-one PC at the very end of a Rose Bowl ad (see below).
